A note on your privacy
Privacy Policy
Ullam is a private diary. It is built so that your writing belongs to you and stays with you. We designed the app to collect as little as possible — in almost all cases, nothing at all leaves your device except through Apple services you control. This policy explains exactly how your information is handled.
The short version
- We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party data collection.
- Your diaries, entries, moods, media, and tags are stored on your device.
- If you enable iCloud, your data syncs through your own private Apple iCloud account — we never see it.
- Diaries you protect with a passcode are encrypted on your device.
- AI writing features run on your device; your entries are never sent to us or to any third party for AI processing.
Information we do not collect
Ullam has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no servers that receive your content. We do not collect names, email addresses, contacts, location, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics. The app does not track you across apps or websites, and contains no third-party advertising or analytics software.
Your diary content stays on your device
Everything you create in Ullam — diaries, daily entries (text and rich text), moods, tags, time capsules, and any photos, videos, or audio you attach — is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database. This content is not transmitted to us.
Optional iCloud sync
If you turn on iCloud sync, your diary data is synchronized across your own Apple devices using Apple's private CloudKit database, tied to your personal Apple ID. This data resides in your iCloud account, is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and is not accessible to us. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in the app's settings.
Encryption of protected diaries
You can protect a diary with a passcode. Protected diaries are encrypted on your device using industry-standard AES-GCM encryption, with the key derived from your passcode. We never receive your passcode or your encryption keys. If you forget the passcode for a protected diary, that content cannot be recovered — by you or by us.
On-device AI features
Ullam's optional AI writing assistant uses Apple's on-device intelligence. When you ask it to improve, summarize, rewrite, expand, or correct an entry, that text is processed locally on your device. Your entries are not sent to us or to any third-party AI service.
Microphone and media
If you choose to record audio or attach photos and videos to an entry, the app accesses your microphone, camera, or photo library only at your request and only to add that media to your diary. This media is stored with your entry on your device (and synced through your own iCloud account if sync is enabled). It is not sent to us.
Notifications
If you enable writing reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. No notification content is sent to or through our servers.
Subscriptions and payments
Ullam Premium is offered as an auto-renewable subscription (with a free trial) purchased through Apple's App Store. All payments are processed by Apple — we do not receive or store your payment details, credit card information, or billing address. Purchases are governed by Apple's terms, and Apple's handling of your information is described in Apple's Privacy Policy. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings.
Third parties
The only third party involved in operating Ullam is Apple, through iCloud (if you enable sync) and the App Store (for purchases). We do not integrate any advertising networks, analytics providers, or other third-party data processors.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device (and, optionally, in your iCloud account), you are in control of it. You can delete individual entries or entire diaries within the app. Deleting the app removes its data from your device; data stored in your iCloud account can be managed or removed through your Apple device's iCloud settings.
Children's privacy
Ullam is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app does not collect personal data at all, no such information is gathered.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the app. Continued use of Ullam after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
